Baby Shower Games
Scramble names
Have the guests try to come up with the words or names using the letters in the mother's and father's name in a certain time period, such as 5 or 7 minutes. The guest with most correctly spelled words/names wins. Or you can modify it in the way that instead of giving a gift to the winner, each guest must pay a nickle for each word on his/her list. All the money goes into the baby's bank!
Baby food taste test
Buy 6 jars of different baby food such as, rice, cereal, fruit, veggetable, and meat. Cover labels on the jars with stickers, write numbers on the stickers. Provide each guest with spoons, paper plates, and paper and pencil. Ask the guests to write the numbers 1 through 6 around the outside of the plate. Pass around each jar of baby food and have the guests drop a spoonful next to each number. Then the guests must taste the food and try to identify each flavor. The person with the most correct answers wins a prize. Keep the camera handy to record some funny faces during the tasting!
Baby socks matching
Separate 10 to 15 different pairs of baby socks (solids and patterned, the more patterned socks, the harder the game). Then mix and pile them in the center of the room. Have each guest match the socks in 30 seconds. The person with most pairs of matching socks wins a prize.
Baby songs
Have the guests, individually or in teams, write down as many songs that have the word baby in the title as they can in 3 to 5 minutes. The person/team who has the most wins.
Celebrity babies
Give each guest a sheet of paper with a list of celebrity moms on the left, and a list of names on the right. The guests have to match the celebrity mom to the name of her baby/child. For examples: Madonna - Lourdes, Goldie - Kate, etc... The guest who matches the most correctly wins.
What did the baby have?
Label 7 unused diapers with numbers 1 to 7. Melt 7 different kinds of chocolate bars in a microwave - just enough for chocolate to become runny. Place a chocolate in each diaper. Take a record of what chocolate is in which diaper. Give each guest a pen and a piece of paper. Pass the diapers around and ask each guest to sniff them and write down each chocolate. The guests who guesses the most correctly wins. You may use other kinds of food that give certain smells such as onion, garlic, vanilla, etc... instead of chocolate.
Help name the baby
Write all letters from the first and last name of Mom- and Dad-to-be down one side of a piece of paper. Ask the guests to write down names that begin with each letter. Then have the guest read out loud the name they choose. If anyone else has that name written down, the name is crossed off. The winner is the person with the most names left.
Bloomers
This game is similar to musical chairs and hot potato. Pass around a gift box wrapped several times. Tell the guests that there are a pair of bloomers inside the box. Whoever has the box in the end has to wear the bloomers. The box is passed around while the music is playing. When the music stops, the person holding the box takes off a layer of wrapping paper. When it is down to no layers, pass the box around one more time until the music stops. The person holding the box, has to open it and wear the bloomers for the rest of the party. The surprise is that the bloomers are candy necklaces. This is a fun game because no one wants to be stuck wearing the "Bloomers" .
Baby quilt
Before the shower, cut out squares of fabric (muslin or cotton). Apply iron-on baby related transfer on some and leave the other plain. At the party, ask the guests to either color in the transfers or create their own design and sign his/her name on his/her square. After the shower, sew the pieces together, put on a batting and tie it off. This makes a wonderful keepsake for the baby and Mom!
